We are the longest-active area Civic organization in Hicksville.

Incorporated in 1951, the Northwest Civic Association of Hicksville (NWCAH) represents and unites the northwest section of Hicksville in the pursuit of civic, social and educational advancements, and to work for the general betterment and welfare of this community.

For 75 years, the Northwest Civic Association has tirelessly advocated for our small corner of Hicksville. This anniversary is both a celebration of our community history, and a time to look forward to all we have yet to accomplish together in the years ahead. We reflect on the hard work, dedication, and collaboration from all our members, past and present, which has shaped our success. Our commitment and continued efforts remain the same: building unity, strengthening community ties, and ensuring the voices of all our residents are heard and valued.

We're more than your area Civic Association...a LOT more!

Membership Benefits • New to us and considering joining? WELCOME!

Your membership strengthens the voice of our Civic to elected officials, allows you to stay better informed about neighborhood issues, police concerns and local TOB projects/improvements, and be aware of fun year-round events and local businesses to shop, and dine at. Whether you’re passionate about volunteering or simply want to stay informed, we believe every voice matters. You’re supporting the place we love to call home…and that’s how our community grows, together.

Accomplishments and Initiatives

  • Custom bullet iconThe NWCAH shed light on the delayed results of testing conducted by the Army Corps of Engineers at the old Sylvania Electric site on Cantiague Rock Road. We will be updated on the next steps for the site. A community meeting was held in September 2022 — a copy of this report is available for review at the Hicksville Public Library.
  • Custom bullet iconThe NWCAH notified and unified all of Hicksville’s active organizations to defeat the proposed construction of a Costco on the corner of West John Street and Charlotte Avenue.
  • Custom bullet iconThe NWCAH successfully defeated a TOB application for an industrial paint booth location at the rear of the DeJana commercial property. The residents of the Jericho Gardens area were opposed to that application as hazardous to the neighborhood.
  • Custom bullet iconAfter the Jericho Gardens Civic Association became dormant, the NWCAH stepped up to accept and manage Oil Consortium members in that area, maintaining their fuel oil savings.
  • Custom bullet iconWorking in conjunction with the Hicksville Community Council and the Hicksville Gardens Civic Association, the NWCAH has hosted “Meet the Candidates” forums for all of our local elections nearly every year since 2017.
  • Custom bullet iconThrough fundraising and raffles, the NWCAH Secret Santa Initiative has provided groceries, gift cards, books, and toys to in-need Burns Avenue Elementary School children and their families during the November/December holiday season.
